Twelve students from Lord William's School took part in a unique experiment at Thame Bowls Club this year.
For 6 weeks during the summer 12 students attended a course in Lawn Green Bowls under the guidance of Terry Gripes, Oxfordshire coach and Keith Wright, Thame coach with the help of six other coaches from across the county together with many Thame bowls club members.
The course was arranged by teachers, Chris Daplyn and Sue Benson and was part of their GCSE Sports examination which they all passed with flying colours. The course was featured on BBC1 Television Oxford News.
Bill Giles, Thame Bowls Club Chairman, said he was delighted with the way that all of the students adapted to bowling and hoped that many of them would join Thame Bowls Club next year. This will become an annual event with each successive GCSE year having the option to learn and enjoy bowling at Thame.
