Thame Bowls Club Weekly News Report No 4

On Wednesday 8th May, Thame Ladies took on the ladies of Marlow and in the words of Captain, Jill Brooks, ‘Oh dear, What a disaster! The weather was lovely and green played very well, but the match not good for Thame as we lost by an overall total of 33. Marlow scored 65 and Thame 32! No winning rink!’ This was particularly disappointing as their first two matches were cancelled by the opposition who were unable to field teams.

Thame Men’s League team got underway on Thursday 9th May with a home fixture against Headington B. Although both teams won on two rinks, Thame scored more shots finishing 60 – 56.5 and gaining 4 league points against Headington’s 2. The best winning rink was played by Geoff Roynon, Keith Brooks, John Rawson and skip Ian Rutherford with a score of 19 – 14. A very creditable performance for the first match and a home game against South Oxford will be next up on Thursday 16th May.

Captain Chris Shannon on 11th May had this to say, ‘We had a very friendly game against Adderbury at home this Saturday – we lent them two players, Keith Brooks, and John Wilkinson, who both played out of their skins, so Jane and Jill are not talking to Brooksie or “Wicky” as they now call him. Brooksie also won on the raffle again. Ray Plested, Tony Battaglia, Ken King, and Deirdre Page were the highest winning rink, so well done to them. Overall, we lost narrowly to a good side by 49 shots to 51’. Chris thanks all the players who turned out again for a very enjoyable day.
