On Saturday, 26th September, before the Chairman vs Secretary bowls match, Marie from the Cancer Research shop came to the Bowls Club to accept a cheque. The money had been raised from a July coffee morning at the club which had also turned into an auction. Dave Hickman, who had been an auctioneer in another life, kept things going with his amusing commentary and jokes. What a happy morning it was and it made over £1,700. Added to that was £65 which was raised and donated at the ladies enjoyable end of season roll up and Pimms afternoon.
However, that wasn’t the end of our efforts for Cancer Research. Jo Green had appealed for cake for the after match refreshments and she was inundated - thank you to all the bakers out there. After all the bowlers had had a drink and cake Jo and Terri Blackburn, who had been kept busy making tea, did a sterling job of selling off all the remaining cake mainly to the gentlemen!
They raised a further £100 so the grand total of our donations to Cancer Research has been £1,927.74.
