Thame Bowls Club Weekly News Report No 10
The men’s league team took on Witney Town at home on Thursday 20 June and after a very closely contested thriller, ran out winners by 70 shots to 68. The highest winning rink was played by Captain John Rawson, Keith Brooks, Chris Shannon and skip Ian Rutherford who won 25 – 15. This win moved the side up to 5th with a 4 – 2 points score.
The ladies played against South Oxford ladies on Monday 24th June. Unfortunately, South Oxford could only field 3 Triples instead if their normal 4 Triples and as the weather was very humid, it was agreed to play 15 ends only. Thame won on 2 rinks with the best rink being June Greene, Pauline Holmes and skip Frances Goodyear with a score of 16 - 11, and closely following with a score of 15 - 11 were Terri Blackburn, Heather Hallchurch and skip Deirdre Page. The overall score was Thame 40 - South Oxford 46. Captain Jill Brooks said, ‘well done ladies, considering the hot weather (which we have not been used to so far this season!)’.
On Thursday 27th June, the men played Headington B and ran out winners by 69 shots to 63. Bill Giles skipped the best winning rink with Dave Holland, John Ashfield and Ray Lewin making up the quartet with the score 25 – 11. This win gave Thame 4 points but they went down to joint 6th position as Woodstock overtook them with a 6-0 home win. There are five more league games to go.
