Thanks to all members for their support on Saturday especially Dawn Hall who had a last-minute call up due to a sickness withdrawal. It was a very warm afternoon on a green which left a lot to be desired. It was decided to reduce the ends played to 14.
The rinks finished Thame 3 Chesham 3, but the overall result was Thame 78 Chesham 65, a very good and welcome result.
We had joint highest winning rinks, rinks 3 and 4 both winning 16 shots to 5, both won 10 ends each, with similar scores i.e. both had two ends 3 shots, and two ends 2 shots, so couldn't be separated. It was decided to award top rink to rink 4 as they were 12 to 0 up at end 7. Well done to Peter Hall, Bill Slade and David Slawson. Rink 3 was Dawn Hall, Alan White and Ken King. Both Dawn and Alan were playing their very first competitive match for the club, and their performances are very encouraging for the future of our club, well done both. Captain Ken King.

The decision was taken by both Captains to cancel the away match at Abingdon in view of the very high temperatures.

Match report for Thame ladies versus Banbury Borough - a Top Club match.
The format was for singles, pairs, triples and rinks; so in all ten ladies played. Thame won two disciplines and lost two.
The singles was played by Pauline Holmes and although she had some good shots she was outplayed and lost on the last two ends, the score being 11-21.
The rinks had Deirdre Page skipping with Jan Sargeant, Wendy Mannix and Ann Ashfield supporting but they couldn’t find form and lost with a disappointing 8-23.
The pairs with Heather Hallchurch and Caroline Walker ( who surprisingly have never played together before) saw some top class bowling by both teams. After a tight game the pair won by a satisfying 12-10.
The triples had, ever dependable, Jill Brooks as skip, who was ably supported by Carol Lawson and Philippa Feltham. This was our best team, winning with a pleasing 22-8.
When both teams win two disciplines each, the score for each team are added together. When this was done Thame lost by 53-62. Although we lost overall it was a creditable performance by Thame ladies… so well done. We need more competitive matches like this to improve our playing. Our thanks go to David Slawson as umpire and Ken King for marking the singles. Their good natured, efficient support was appreciated by both teams as was the top-class condition of the green.

It was a much cooler day owing to a brisk breeze when just two triples visited Hazells.
The team on rink 2 consisting of Wendy Mannix, Jan Sargeant and Pauline Holmes struggled to find form owing to the Top Club match the day before. Wendy and Jan had some good bowls, but Pauline was well under par which was reflected in the score of Thame 10 Hazells 19.
Rink 1 with Philippa Feltham, Sandra French and skip Carol Slawson were never behind after a 4 on end 3. They won their game with a creditable 19-15.
Overall, Thame lost by 29-34: a result below par for Thame ladies against Hazells. However, no game is won easily so well tried, ladies. Captain Pauline Holmes.
