Congratulations to Thame’s men who have finished top of Division 4 in the Oxfordshire Men’s League with one game to spare. They demolished their nearest rivals, Woodstock by 76 shots to 52 giving them 6 league points with wins on all four rinks. This was after Woodstock had easily beaten the third placed league team, Witney Town B by a similar score the evening before. Thame’s highest winning rink was played by Phil Reed, Ken King, Bill Giles and skip Dave White 20-8. Thame will be promoted to Division 3 next season, and will play Banbury Borough, Banbury Chestnuts, Carterton B, Charlbury and either Woodstock or Witney Town B (depending on next week’s results).

On Thursday 30th July the ladies took three triples to Wendover on an overcast but muggy day. By agreement, because of the heat, we played 14 ends with 1 on the first two ends and no trial ends.
On rink 4 Deirdre Page, Wendy Mannix and Marion Keal won the first two ends but found it hard to advance against a strong team. At one stage they were 2-11 down but pulled back to lose 12-18. Rink 3 with Pauline Holmes, Carol Slawson and Jenny Reed were 2-9 down on the 5th end. However, some determined play saw them go into the lead 11-10 by the 12th end. The last two ends were very exciting and they lost by 11-13. A very enjoyable game. Our winning rink with the reliable trio of Heather Hallchurch, Jill Brooks and Philippa Feltham were straight into the lead and they never looked like losing. Their score was 15-7.
Well done rink 3 and 4 for pulling back and also rink 2 for a textbook display of how to play and win. Last time we played Wendover we lost by 1 but this time our overall score was 38-38, so a draw against a strong team. Well done, ladies. Captain Pauline Holmes.
Saturday 1st August 2026
Saturday was a great day for bowling warm, but not too hot. Thame's team consisted of 4 men’s and 2 ladies’ rinks. Thame won 4 rinks to Bicesters 2, I am pleased to report that both ladies’ rinks came out on top of two highly contested matches, well done ladies.
Our highest winning rink was rink 4, Phil Reed, Bill Slade and Ian Rutherford by 26 shots to 7. The overall match result was 99 Thame 78 Bicester, a great result and thanks to all members for their support. Special thanks to Pauline Prangle who came along as reserve to ensure that we were not short. Captain Ken King.
