2025 Finals Weekend Report

What a great weekend for the finals, we were blessed by the weather and some of the best finals games we have seen, seems to get better each year I have done this, with many earlier rounds throughout the season throwing up some surprising results (never bet on the outcome of a game).

It was extremely difficult to organise this year’s finals over the weekend for 2 reasons. Firstly, a number of finalists were not available all weekend and secondly, we had many of the same names in multi finals (and as nobody is getting younger it’s not fair to ask them to play 2 or 3 games in one day). With my one brain cell I had to call on three other brain cells in the name of Chris, Ian, & Phil to help iron this out. Even after setting out a plan, I noticed we had missed that Mrs Shannon was in 3 finals, so had to reschedule again and so we ended up with having to play over 4 days. I will be asking for next year’s finals to include the Friday rather than have it as a contingency day/evening. I will also be looking at what we can do to ensure that we do not have to run over 4 days again.

A couple of milestones were reached. Caroline Walker won the Pomeroy Cup, which is the ladies championship, for the 7th time which means she is equal top of the Ladies Hall of Fame which can be viewed if you click here. In addition Dave White won the men's Coronation Cup, which is the men's championship, for the third time and so enters the Men's Hall of Fame which can be viewed if you click here.

There is a gallery of finalists and winners of all 13 competitions if you click here (you will need to be logged in to see them) and a list of winners below.

I have to say a big thank you to lots of people who helped me throughout the year, and on finals weekend. Chris, Ian, Phil & Philippa for a multitude of things, Competition draws and web site, assigning the men’s handicap, Whitsun cup, Purser Cup, Potter Cup, finals weekend. The good ladies that help with cakes & teas on competition Sundays, Bar staff that keep Mr Roynon & Mr White topped up.

Thanks to Maire for presenting the cups.

Thanks to Chris, Barry, Melv, Paul & Jesse for giving us a super green to bowl on (envied by many a local club), and to Ian Griffiths for keeping the edges and ditch in fine order (which I try not to visit too often).

Thanks to all that entered the competitions, which gave us such good entertainment throughout the year.

Regards,

Adrian Wilcox

Competition Secretary.
