It was a fine, but overcast day, when the ladies took two triples and a pair to Amersham. The green didn’t play well, and it took the pairs consisting of lead Pauline Holmes and skip Jenny Reed, ten ends to progress to a disappointing 5 to Amersham’s 14. However, Thame did rally and the final score for their rink was 13 - 18.
Rink 5 with the triple of June Greene, Jill Brooks and Heather Hallchurch was soon in the lead but it was a very well-matched Amersham triple who kept the score even. A final end 2 saw Thame win by 13-12.
Rink 3 was our best rink with Philippa Feltham, Pauline Prangle and ever reliable Caroline Walker. A 7 on end five saw them with a commanding lead of 14-3. A win was never in doubt, and a fine 21-13 score was achieved with finesse. The final overall score was 47 to Thame and 43 to Amersham.
Well done ladies a satisfying result when playing on a difficult ‘spongy’ green. Our thanks go to Dave Hickman who volunteered to drive the ladies to this match which would have had to be cancelled if he hadn’t done so. This was our last ladies match and a happy end to a mixed season. Captain Pauline Holmes.

The weather on Tuesday was fair and bright but with a welcome cool breeze, the green looked in perfect condition, and we welcomed Captain Harry and his team. On Rink 2 Peter Hall, Leonard Grimshaw, and Ian Rutherford, had a job from the start, keeping up with the opposition, but managed to even things up by end 9 and things did look as if they'd turned a corner, but the game went away from them Thame 13, Amersham 17. Hard luck Team, a good effort.
On Rink 3 Phil Reed, Tony Battaglia and Dave White, started off slowly but with the help of a 5 shot on end 6, and further wins on ends 7,8,9, put them into a 10/7 lead. But then the pendulum swung into Amersham’s half, they won the next 3 ends gathering 8 shots, but the next 3 ends swung into Thame’s half, and they came back with 7 shots. But with losses over the next 2 ends and a final end win by 1 shot gave Thame a richly deserved draw, Thame 18, Amersham 18. Well, done Team.
On Rink 4 Les Canfield and Roger Mackriell shared their game with Colin French and Chris Shannon, and at end 8 both teams were 7 each. Further wins for Amersham followed by wins to Thame put Thame at 14/13 at end 16; the two final ends left both lead and second wondering how the skip would overcome what seemed like large losses. Chris took on the challenge and on end 17 wiped out 5 shots by drawing to the jack, and on the final end reduced Amershams 2 shots to 1 with his final bowl, this ended Thame 15 Amersham 14. Well, done Team, with grateful thanks to Chris from his team.
On Rink 5 Nigel Legard, John Holmes and Roger Blackburn took until end 9 before taking control of the game, winning 6 of the final ends, with a final score of Thame 19 Amersham 13. Well, done Team. A good win for Thame, 65 shots to 63.
